Founded in 1935 by Jerry Yednak, what started out as a mattress and carpet cleaning business soon became Monterey County's premier mattress manufacturer.

 

Lloyd McQueen joined the company in 1951 and worked for the family business until 1981 when he took over ownership. Lloyd along with his son in law Monty Massey ran the business until 2003, where at that point they sold the business to current owner John Babine.

 

John started his career in the mattress industry in 1980 with Pioneer Mattress Co. in Sand City Ca., which he developed into Mattresses of Monterey. When Mattresses of Monterey closed in 1985, John went to work with Lloyd and stayed with Salinas Mattress Co. for two years before returning to the peninsula to become the production manager for the new Monterey Mattress Co. John held his position as production manager for 18 years and acquired a reputation for his attention to detail and his commitment to customer service.

 

With a larger showroom and manufacturing facility, John has expanded his line of beds to include 100% Latex mattresses and Visco Elastic mattresses to go along with the conventional innerspring mattresses.

 

John has served the Salinas Valley and Monterey peninsula for nearly 40 years and is truly committed to making Salinas Mattress Company the people's choice in quality bedding.
